Existing Game: Drop 7
Drop 7 is a mobile game for either iPhone or Android. Similar to Tetris, a signle player “drops numbered discs into the grid. Whenever the number on a disc matches the amount of discs in its row or column it disappears. Keep the board open to keep scoring, and survive as long as you can. Clear the board or set off huge chains for big bonus points.” (Area Code)
Reappropriating Drop 7
While I love Drop 7, one of the main problems I have with the game is that I am always playing it obsessively alone. I would like to take the existing mechanics of Drop 7 and apply them to a physical multi-player social game. In order to facilitate smaller parties, I have re-envisioned the game into a 5×5 grid instead of a 7×7 grid and I have therefore titled this game: “5 GUYS”.
“5 GUYS” Instructions
1. Reach into box and select a circle
2. Shoot yourself and the circle down into the 5×5 grid
3. If the number on your circle matches the amount of circles in the row or column you can head back to the top of the grid with your teammates
4. If the number on your circle allows for another player’s number to equal the amount in the column or row then they can head back to the top of the grid
5. If a player draws a gray circle they have no number. Instead they have to wait until two adjacent numbers are sent back to the top before they can go back to the top of the grid
6. Each time a player heads back to the top of the grid the team receives 5 points, if two players head back to the top of the grid at the same time (a chain) the team receives 10 points and so on
