t2p/dt update ((((((((((confidential)))))))))))))

If I haven’t mentioned lately the site is up and running HTTP://TAP2POST.COM/DT and taking off like fireworks. I have over 50 some users and 200 plus posts and growing quickly. So, I’m definitely happy about what we’ve created. It’s the best answer I’ve seen to the question, “What do you study?” There’s more than just school work, this reflects the culture of our program.

I’m turning my attention to an end-of-semester tap2post gallery exhibit event. Here’s my pitch to Anezka:

I want do do something like this image, with our cumulative print credits and all the photos (around 1000?) in a group show. I was hoping we could serve/bring wine, and then allow the gallery attendees to take one or two prints home, dismantling the show at the end of the night. So, I was hoping for a gallery space for a day to set up, and an evening show at like 9pm on Friday May 6, but if not a gallery– an empty classroom would suffice. I don’t know–I am definitely open to suggestions! If you want the photos to stay up longer or be displayed as part of Parsons Festi I’m interested in that too…
Thanks,
Nathan

OK–Nathan–
I love your enthusiasm and your project is very cool. What you should do is float it by the following people: David Carroll (carrolld@newschool.edu)and Charlie Pizzarello (pizzarec@newschool.edu). Try to give them a 2 line pitch and sell the idea. CC: me I LOVE it and I think it will be a hit.

I emailed Dave in our studio class on Thursday requesting an audience. Then I cornered him at the elevator, but he told me he didn’t have time to hear about my mini-thesis…

Then on Friday I heard that Dave presented my project along with the typography iPad project that is SO AWESOME to his Mobile Media class as examples of good prototyping and successful DT projects. It’s an honor to be in the same sentence with that project. Email from an eyewitness:

“Dave talked about your project in our collab this morning. He said it’s a good example of user testing and he even said, “i went on and thought, oh, THAT’S where all of DT is.”

Then Dave sent me this email introducing me to a promising potential first-year MFADT (still no meeting or exhibit space, but I’m hopeful…):

Karin, Nathan–Nathan, Karin,
I e-introduce you. Karin is an accepted MFA Design and Technology candidate. Please field her questions and concerns about the program. You’ll realize quickly why I’ve paired you up.

Nathan’s major studio 2 project is righteous: see http://tap2post.com/dt

It’s an amazing glimpse into the MFADT culture at play.

Nathan would you kindly share your syllabi from both major studios with Karin?
best,
Dave

right·eous 1. (of a person or conduct) Morally right or justifiable; virtuous. 2. Perfectly wonderful; fine and genuine. An alliance with Dave sounds great for getting new users, if I want all the incoming DTs on board. Probably in a separate tap2post group. And I still need exhibit space. I might see if he’ll email my project to the DT list to reach everyone as a potential contributor. I’m worried that some people might think the site is exclusive or cliquish and I want all DT to feel welcome and contacted asap. (I also have some concerns about the hypothetical partnership, but I need to talk to Dave and figure all this stuff out.)

Greatest hits, shout-outs, and feedback via facebook:

And Michelle Kirby posted this and I love it. Required viewing for t2p users.

And I met Nan Goldin, who heavily inspired this project and my study of photo blogs. She is a legend of photography and spoke at Parsons on the subject of self-censorship and the need to publish and photograph everything. I told her about the project and she gave me an A+
